When you’re tired, your frustration level kicks up. Believe me, I know this. Don’t make any decisions when you’ve put in a full day, you haven’t gotten enough sleep, or something else has been taxing your brain power.

Writing requires energy—mental energy and physical energy. If you’re tired, and frustrated, every obstacle is going to feel insurmountable.

Take a rest. Maybe it means taking a nap or doing a five-minute Yoga routine or even packing it in for the day, but do something to give yourself some space from the task at hand.

Rest.

But don’t quit. Never quit.

Writing a book is hard…really hard. There’s no way around it. But there are ways to help it feel less scary. Here are some Author Mom tips to help you sustain your mojo:

Break it Down: Tackle small, manageable tasks that lead to your larger goal. Focus on daily or weekly achievements to build momentum. All words are progress, whether it’s 100 words or 1000.

Track Progress: Regularly review where you are in relation to your goal. Adjust your plan if necessary to stay on course. Don’t be afraid to change it up. That includes taking a break.

Set Boundaries: Protect your time and energy by saying no to distractions or commitments that don’t align with your goal. It’s so easy to veer off course. Your time is precious. You don’t have to ignore everyone in your life, but be picky—especially if you have a day job.
