I get asked this question a lot. Yes and no. There may be personality or physical traits I pull from people I know, but as a rule my characters come from my imagination.
There are two characters, however, who are modeled on real people. Ed and Enza Gervais from This Christmas are based on the principal of my school and my department director. They both knew they were going to be in a book, and that I married them off.
